CFMMEU should learn to obey the law before trying to change it

“It’s regrettable that the CFMMEU are protesting today against laws designed to protect workers who are not union members, small business people, sub-contractors and tradies from union bullying and threats,” Denita Wawn, CEO of Master Builders Australia said.

“While the CFMMEU chooses to flout the law the victims of its bullying and the wider community want the union to devote the same effort to obeying the law like everyone else,” she said.

“Sadly the CFMMEU chooses the opposite,” Denita Wawn said.

“Examples of the union’s unlawful conduct are extensively and forensically documented in three separate Reports of Royal Commissions, dozens of Government reports and inquiries, and over 150 critical adverse court judgements,” she said.

“This financial year alone, courts have found that 10 CFMMEU officials have broken 14 industrial laws on at least 19 occasions over 4 states, causing 6 separate penalty decisions culminating in penalties totalling over $1million – an average of over $120,000 each and every week,” Denita Wawn said.
