Big wins for NSW builders at National Excellence in Building & Construction Awards

The very best of New South Wales building and construction was on display at the Master Builders National Excellence in Building and Construction Awards over the weekend.

NSW builders dominated in the Commercial building categories, taking out major awards including:

• Toyota National Young Builder of the Year, Mark Newman of Newmark Constructions
• National Commercial/Industrial Construction Award – $10M to $20M, ADCO Constructions for Oran Park Library
• National Commercial/Industrial Construction Award – $5M to $10M, Lipman for Macquarie University Incubator
• Toyota National Civil/Infrastructure Under $25M, McCarrs Creek Road Upgrade by Ward Civil & Environmental Engineering
• Liberty National Health Facility Award, George Hospital redevelopment by Multiplex

“New South Wales builders dominated at the National Awards, again showcasing the prowess of Master Builders members in NSW, particularly in  in the commercial building sector,” Denita Wawn, CEO of Master Builders Australia said.

Prominent New South Wales contractor Ward Civil & Environmental Engineering received national recognition for its landmark Pittwater Bay Project.

The McCarrs Creek Road Upgrade – the first major project executed by the newly formed Northern Beaches Council – won the Toyota National Civil / Infrastructure Award under $25M.

Denita Wawn, CEO of Master Builders Australia said “this landmark project included reclamation of land at Church Point Reserve, construction of a new seawall, realignment of the existing McCarrs Creek Road and construction of a new multi-story cark park for local and Scotland Island residents.”

“Protection of the marine environment was a main focus and as such, construction works in and around the sensitive marine environment were well staged and planned to mitigate potential impacts,” Denita Wawn said.

“Ward worked closely with Northern Beaches Council, the Environmental Protection Agency and Fisheries NSW to ensure compliance when working within Pittwater Bay and are worthy recipients of this award,” she said.

The National Commercial/Industrial Construction Award $5M to $10M was awarded to Lipman for their Macquarie University Incubator project.

“The building provides a vibrant and accessible space for users to focus on their business ideas within an entrepreneurial community and Lipman are to be commended of their outstanding work on this project,” Denita Wawn, CEO of Master Builders Australia said.

ADCO Constructions won National Commercial/Industrial Construction Award 10M to $20m for Oran Park Library.

“This project met the client’s vision of a “community living room”, where people of all ages, abilities and interests come for relaxation and entertainment to experience history and culture, to play and create and to connect and communicate,” Denita Wawn said.

Multiplex Constructions, Sydney was presented with the Liberty National Health Facility Award for their St George Hospital redevelopment.

“This was a challenging project for Multiplex with the stage two development involving the construction of a new seven level Acute Services building on top of an existing fully operational 24-hour Emergency Department,” Denita Wawn said.

“Multiplex are worthy winners, successfully overcoming major challenges all the while ensuring a fully uninterrupted ambulance service,” she said.

Mark Newman of Newmark Constructions took home the highly contested Toyota National Young Builder of the Year award. Mark was awarded the Master Builders Australia first year Apprentice of the Year in 1996.

“Mark has always had a partnership with MBA throughout his career either as an apprentice, a member and now heading up his own building business. He is committed to growing the industry and supporting its excellence and is more than deserving of this coveted award,” Denita Wawn said.
