Master Builders backs better targeting of VET loans

The Government’s focus on providing funding support for skills training that includes the growing building and construction sector will greatly assist the industry to contribute to economic growth and maximise employment outcomes according to Master Builders Australia.

“The announcement by Education Minister Simon Birmingham of the inclusion of building and construction qualifications at the diploma level of the Government’s new VET Student Loans program is particularly appreciated,” Wilhelm Harnisch, CEO of Master Builders Australia said.

“Master Builders also welcomes the Government’s recognition of the importance of a quality workforce for our industry which is the nation’s third largest, employs more than a million people per year and trains more than 50,000 apprentices each year,” he said.

“In supporting the reforms, Master Builders is nevertheless concerned by the omission of the Advanced Diploma of Building and Construction and looks forward to discussing with the Government its potential inclusion in the future. This is important to driving productivity and innovation in the $200 billion building and construction industry,” Wilhelm Harnisch said.
