Hansen Yuncken has been honoured with the prestigious Liberty National Education Facility Award for its construction of the University of Newcastle’s NeW Space at the National Excellence in Building and Construction Awards on the weekend.
Denita Wawn, CEO of Master Builders Australia said the award was well deserved recognition of Hansen Yuncken’s delivery of the $95M landmark education hub.
“Hansen Yuncken must be congratulated for providing an ideal built environment for this cutting edge world class education hub that’s also proven to be a catalyst for renaissance of the Newcastle CBD,” Denita Wawn said.
The University of Newcastle’s NeW space precinct creates a benchmark for indoor environments, fostering exceptional learning and research outcomes across the 10-level building, containing lecture theatres, library, teaching and learning spaces, offices and retail areas featuring a dual-directional sun shading system wrapped around the building form.
The building is designed to allow a new mode of teaching, replacing traditional lecture theatres with flexible work spaces and booth seating. Aside from the structural challenges and requirements, the façade system incorporates over 24 finish types, involving procurement and fabrication worldwide.
“The building has received national and international acclaim and Hansen Yuncken is a deserving winner,” Denita Wawn said.
