- September quarter enrolments up 8.9% in 2019
- Over 20% of all apprentices are enrolled in construction qualifications
The latest NCVER data released this week shows 5,155 apprentices and trainees commenced construction qualifications in the September 2019 quarter (up 8.9% on September 2018 commencements), bringing total apprentices in-training in construction qualifications to 56,545 nationwide.
The vast majority of apprentices in-training in construction qualifications are enrolled in just two qualifications – the Cert III in Carpentry (43.5%) and the Cert III in Plumbing (28.2%).
In the 12 months to 30 September 2019, 12,300 apprentices and trainees completed construction qualifications. This is an increase of 2,370 completions (23.9%) since 2015.
The vast majority of apprentices in-training in construction qualifications are enrolled in just two qualifications – the Cert III in Carpentry (43.5%) and the Cert III in Plumbing (28.2%).
Concerningly, cancellations and withdrawals from construction qualifications continue to exceed completions. In the 12 months to 30 September 2019, 18,180 cancelled or withdrew from construction qualifications.
There were apprentices and trainees in-training in 208 occupational categories in the September 2019 quarter. Over 20% of these were in just three occupations – electrician (11.2%), Carpenters and Joiners (10.3%) and Plumbers (6.7%).
