Master Builders Australia is aware that the Registered Organisations branch of the Fair Work Commission has announced it will open a formal inquiry into the Master Builders Association of Victoria (‘MBV’).

MBV is one of nine Association Members that comprise the membership of Master Builders Australia.

Master Builders Australia operates pursuant to a federated organisational structure, where each association has its own appointed directors and executive operating independently pursuant to their own constitutions and rules.

Master Builders Australia recognises the important role played by registered organisations under the Fair Work system and supports full compliance, transparency and high levels of governance standards.

The rights and privileges afforded to registered organisations are subject to strict rules and governance obligations, and it is important these be upheld at all times.

Any allegations of non-compliance must be treated seriously, investigated thoroughly, and if found, dealt with appropriately.

Master Builders Australia note that the circumstances giving rise to the inquiry involving MBV, as contained in various media reports, are allegations only and yet to be properly investigated.

Master Builders Australia believes it is crucial for the FWC to conduct its inquiry in an efficient, objective and thorough manner. To this end, the Board of Master Builders Australia has resolved to:

  • make no further public comment until its work is complete and the outcome is known; and
  • fully cooperate with any regulatory investigation if so requested and expects all industry participants to adopt this same approach.
