Overall current business confidence in the building and construction sector remains strong according to Master Builders’ latest National Survey of Building and Construction.

A real time barometer of business confidence in the building and construction sector, the Survey collates responses from builders in communities across the country.

“Despite large differences in sentiment recorded from different state and territory markets, the strong pipeline of building activity in the eastern states is supporting confidence at a national level in the March quarter 2018,” Denita Wawn, CEO of Master Builders Australia said.

“Responses to the Survey show work on the books remains strong in New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania while relatively weak responses were recorded from other states including South Australia and Western Australia,” she said.

“Residential builders continue to have higher expectations of future building activity than those in the non-residential sector, although expectations for the non-residential sector have improved for the past two quarters in a row,” Denita Wawn said.

“We can expect the Survey’s non-residential index to record substantial improvement as commercial builders feel the effects of the surge in commercial construction work that is recorded in the latest ABS building activity data,” Denita Wawn said.
