Incentives to take on more apprentices a boost for builders

“The start of new incentives from 1 July 2019 for builders to take on apprentices and for people to start on a career in building and construction will be a boost for our industry, small business and the economy,” Denita Wawn, CEO of Master Builders Australia said.

“Encouraging more people into a modern, motivated and appropriately skilled workforce is a major priority for our members who are busy building prosperity and opportunity in every community around the country,” she said.

“There are more than 370,000 small building businesses in building and construction, more than any other sector in the economy. They go a very long way to making us the biggest provider of full time jobs of any industry and it’s why the Government will always be on a winner with measures that help building and construction businesses to increase their productivity and invest in jobs and future skills,” Denita Wawn said.

“As the Reserve Bank Governor has noted, measures that support a strong business sector that generates jobs are needed to support economic growth. That’s why Master Builders backed the Government’s commitment to train 80,000 new apprentices when it was announced in the Budget and why we welcome the commencement of Additional Identified Skills Shortage Payment (AISS) and the second phase of the Apprentice Wage Subsidy,” Denita Wawn said.
